Parents and teachers were invited to the first PTO meeting of the 2016-2017 school year. At this meeting, Communities in Schools provided pizza for those attending. Topics covered were ways to reach out to more parents and the need for volunteers and mentors at Coosa Middle School.
Donuts with Dad
Fathers were invited on this fall morning to share Dunkin Donuts with their students.
Muffins with Mom
Coosa Middle School invited all mothers to join their student to start the day off with breakfast. Mothers bonded with their student over donuts, juice, milk, and coffee.
Veteran’s Day Program
Coosa Middle School honored veterans with a special Veterans Day program. The band opened the program with the Star Spangled Banner and the chorus performed “In Flanders Field.” A student essay contest was held with the topic being The Importance of Veterans Day. Mary Katherine West’s winning essay was read at the program. Students in art classes hand-made poppies to present to each attending veteran along with a hand-written thank you note. Retired Specialist Ronald Palmer was the honored speaker and shared with students that value that his military service added to his life.
Parents in every grade level were invited to come have a lunch date with their student. In total, 56 parents showed up to have lunch with their student and friends.
Attendance Field Trip
Students with 3 or less absences for the semester earned a field trip to the movies to see “Moana” at Rome Cinemas. As part of this reward, students received a free drink and popcorn.
